The home of country music, deep in the Southern and part of the Bible Belt is the uniquely American state of Tennessee. A former slave state and the last one to join the Confederacy, Tennessee was scene of many major Civil War battles and location of Graceland’s, mansion and shrine to the King of Rock, Elvis. The state enjoys a pleasant warm and humid climate heavily influenced by the Tennessee River which cuts through the states centre and the Mississippi to the east. The state is a major cotton and textile producer and was the country’s biggest electricity generator from the 1930’s. Much of the nuclear Manhattan Project was conducted here, but the state’s leading attraction is its rich Country music heritage and centre of its recording industry. Many a star was born here.
